Mumbai: Southern beauty Asin Thottumkal, who has worked with Salman Khan in `London Dreams` and `Ready`, says she admires and respects the actor but has never desired him. "I never saw him in that light. For me he was somebody who I looked up to in a very respectful way, somebody that I admired. He is very attractive but that`s not the way I saw or looked up to him as...so that never really crossed my mind...of desiring him," said Asin, who will grace Simi Garewal`s show "India`s Most Desirable" this Sunday. "I really never thought of resisting him," she added.
The 25-year-old admitted she feels lucky to have worked with bigwigs of Bollywood like Aamir Khan in "Ghajini" and Salman.Asin recalled that the "Dabangg" actor made her eat a bug during the making of "Ready".
"Salman actually challenged me to eat a bug that he along with the crew had collected from a nearby jungle in Bangkok. They eat these creatures there. So he held it in his hand and asked me to eat it," she said. "And I am not the one to shy away from challenges. I ate it rather swallow it. Salman thought that I would yell, scream, throw a fit or get freaked out but I didn`t. Instead, I ate it. So he didn`t really get the reaction he expected," the actress added.
Relationship experts always advise against dating a co-worker, and the same applies even to the film industry. Sajid Khan, who is said to be dating the lead actor of Housefull 2, Jacqueline Fernandes, may have a bit of a problem on his hands, with the other actors up in arms against this nepotism. Asin and Zarine Khan are the two other leading ladies in Housefull 2, and are getting insecure because of the special treatment Jacqueline gets on the sets. Asin, especially, has taken it to another level. It seems she has asked Sajid that she needs a better vanity van for herself. “The cast has been provided with the best of facilities. And Asin's demands are totally uncalled for,” says a unit member.
But the real reason may not be the lack of a good enough vanity van, but Asin's attempts at stamping her superiority over the two others, who are her juniors in the industry. “She feels she is justified in throwing her weight around, but she is just plain immature. She isn't used to working in an ensemble cast, and even though she has had highly successful films like Ghajini and Ready they were solo films,” an eyewitness adds.
A lot of actors have struggled before reaching the enviable positions they hold in the industry. But some have been fortunate to make a bang with their very first film itself. A few in this category have gone on from strength to strength whereas others floundered and fizzled out after the first big explosion. Let us take a look at the stars who hit the very first ball bowled to them for a massive six...
ASIN IS ONE OF THEM :) : M Kumaran
Asin was the impish sweetheart in M Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi. She came, she acted, and she conquered.
Director 'Nishikant Kamat' has remade tamil superkit "Kaakha Kaakha" into Hindi starring John and Genelia. We are all aware that Asin played the role in telugu version. But why Asin wasn't in the hindi version?? Lets find out....
Is it true that you were planning to cast Asin for the female lead? How did Genelia come on board thereafter? Yes...Asin was among the few actors we had shortlisted but she had major date issues as she was busy with Ready so we didn't pursue it further. We wanted someone who could make the transition from girl to woman effortlessly. There are very few actors in the industry who can play a girl and a woman equally convincingly and Genelia is one of them. She has done an awesome job in the film and is looking really cute
Though she and Mithun had been cordial with each other during the days spent on HOUSEFULL 2, to Asin's surprise, the veteran actor knew everything about her work not just in Bollywood but also down South. Moreover it was also the Tamil factor that came in handy because due to his business in Ooty, Mithun knew the language quite well. Soon, Asin and Mithun found themselves interacting in Tamil and become much more familiar with each other.
The source continues, 'He seemed to know everything about Asin's career history and had apparently seen quite a few of her Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films. He pointed out nuances of some of her work from the past and was also quite kind with his compliments.'
This isn't all as the veteran actor also made an observation about her stint with actors belonging to varied age groups. He felt that Asin came with just the right personality that allowed her to be paired opposite younger as well as relatively senior heroes.
Remembers Asin who has worked with Mithun Chakraborty for the first time ever in this Sajid Khan directed film, 'Mithunda shared with me a few tips on enjoying a long and productive innings in the film industry. He didn't have to do that but I guess that's part of his intrinsic nature to take youngsters under his wings. He was so sweet and encouraging. There was so much fun on the sets when he was around.'
Hope the fun continues when HOUSEFULL 2 enters its next shooting schedule this October
On her way to Mangalore for a function, Asin was recently at the Mumbai airport and was about to board her flight, when a cute, curly-haired little girl came running up to her shouting, "Didi! Didi!"
The actress immediately picked her up and the next thing she knew, the little muppet had wrapped her tiny arms around her neck and given her a smacking kiss on the cheeks!
We hear the child just refused to let Asin go. So the actress gave her a few chocolates which were in her handbag, while the child's mother tried unsuccessfully to separate her from Asin. Asin's flight (at the adjacent gate) was boarding, so to make things easier, Asin carried the little girl with her till the gate and finally managed to cajole the kid to let her go. Sweet!
