The Readystar Asin, who has worked with Salman Khan says that the fiery actor is too big a star to compete with..... The camaraderie Asin and Salman share is visibly evident, on-screen or off it! And as a result of being so close with Salman, Asin can't even think of competing with this larger-than-life star. In case you are wondering about their on-screen chemistry, take a look at it on YouTube Boxoffice. The two actors have also been romantically linked up for their friendly equation time and again. Though Asin maintains that she respects Salman and is happily single, she vehemently denies the romantic link-up with the megastar. Asin, it seems, is happy only sharing the screen space with Sallu bhai and believes it's foolish to think of nudging him out of the frame to hog more attention. “You can't look up to that and say that I want to compete with him and nudge him and push him aside and show my face. I'm quite happy to be a part of this big project. Salman obviously deserves the kind of adoration or space that he gets because he is who he is,” said Asin in an interview. Asin dear, we wholeheartedly agree with you! After all, with the kind of mass appeal bhai boasts of and given the huge size of his fan-base wethinks very few people in the industry can give Salman a run for his money!
You are currently having fun shooting for Sajid Khan's Housefull-2... Yes, it is one of those terrific comedies being made on a lavish scale. Jacqueline Fernandes, Shazan Padamee, Zarine Khan and I are shooting a song with Farah Khan. It is a scream and I'm loving every minute.
With so many girls on set, is the atmosphere chilly? No. As a matter of fact, it's fun. I get along with all the girls. Honestly, the two Sajids (Nadiawala and Khan) are very sorted. I know from Day one what my role is and they have kept it absolutely the way it is.
In the south, you avoided multi-starrers. How come you are open to them in Hindi? I was never offered multi-starrers in the south. Plus, no two big heroes agree to work with each other because each of them has such a massive fan that it becomes impossible to justify them in two-hero projects. I have been very selective in the south because I was always offered the biggest films. In Bollywood, things are different because multi-starrers are a norm. All big heroines are happy to be part of a big movie.
You did good work down South but you still didn't manage a film with Rajinikanth! I regret missing out on a film with Rajini sir. He is one of the legends of our cinema industry. I have met him at several film functions and he has always had words of encouragement for me. I hope I can be in a film with him someday.
We believe you are investing heavily in property... I just gifted myself a six bedroom apartment in Kochi. It is on the Marine Drive and it overlooks the rainbow bridge. I am not a material girl. However, there is a small sense of pride and achievement that I have managed to buy something to be proud of. I already have a home in Kochi and this is my second. My parents, who stay with me in Mumbai, visit our home in Kochi every month. I am also planning to spend more time there when my work schedule eases a bit. I want to take my friends from the industry and outside to my new apartment as the view is breath-taking. Kerala is certainly God's own country.
It appears that Asin has developed a new passion for another profession -being a local guide. Says a source, "Asin has been shooting in Jaipur for Rohit Shetty's Bol Bachchan and become a local guide for the whole unit there. She bought lots of books and researched on the internet about the city and now she knows every nook and cranny, restaurant and hotel or tourist spot in Jaipur. Whenever anyone has a query about the city, Rohit points to Asin and says, 'Please ask Asin as she knows everything on Jaipur.'
SALMAN KHAN IS MOOHFAT: ASIN
Actor Asin Thottumkal, who's already a big name down south, said she's fascinated to be a part of Bollywood, on a chat show hosted by Simi Garewal recently. “I feel very grateful to God to get an opportunity to be working with the best of the best,” she said.
When asked about the experience related stories Bodyguard director wants Salman for his next of working with almost all the top stars of tinsel town, especially actor Salman Khan, Asin said, “Salman is a very chilled out person. He is very frank and forthright with his opinions and whatever he wants to express. Moohfat - is how I would call him,” Asin said of her Ready co-star on the TV show - India's Most Desirable. When quizzed about the rumoured link-up with actor Neil Nitin Mukesh, Asin, 25, clarified that she had never dated him. But then, what about the silver heart that Mukesh gave her, as he gives to every girl he falls in love with? “Sadly, the silver heart has always been returned ever since he's been in school,” she replied.
SALMAN KHAN Vs SURYA: WHO WILL ASIN CHOOSE?
With a rather successful innings in Bollywood, today actor Asin's as much a star in B-Town as she is down South. And though she admits that technically there's not much difference when it comes to comparisons between the two industries, there's a certain difference when it comes to the audience's perception of the stars.
“Down South I think audiences like it when the star is like one amongst them - they're simple and without make-up when they go out - that's valued as 'one of us', but it's different in Bollywood. There's much more attention, scrutiny and speculation, since it's a national platform, the audiences also expect a star to be a star 24x7. They like to see a little bit of stardust on a star all the time!” she says.
As for the stars, Asin feels that there can't be comparisons among actors and finds it hard to say who's a bigger crowd-puller, between her favourites Surya and Salman Khan. “Salman's such a craze nationwide and Surya's a big star down South and has done a few movies in Hindi as well so I really wouldn't know,” adds Asin. Talking about her equation with Salman on Simi Garewal's talk show, she reveals that Salman's a very chilled out person, but there's no question about resisting him. “I never saw him in that light. He is very attractive, but for me he was somebody who I looked up to in a very respectful way, somebody I admired. So that never really crossed my mind,” she says. "He is full of masti all the time on sets and I'm always the bakra,” she smiles recalling an incident when he actually challenged her to eat a bug. “We were shooting in Bangkok and Salman brought a bug.
"It was raw and he's like 'have it'. He thought that I'd be yelling and throwing a heroine tantrum but I didn't. I said calmly 'achha okay', and just swallowed it. So actually he didn't really get the reaction he expected,” shares Asin revealing her 'wicked side'. “Yes, at times I can be wicked! You know, I kind of get away with a lot of things,” she smiles. What about love? Talking about the last time she went on a date, she says, “I didn't know it was a date, I thought I was just going out with a friend but apparently it was a date and that would be a year back.” However, Asin reveals that she's not exactly a romantic. “I think I'm a contradiction. Somewhere, I'm very emotional, sentimental and a romantic, but I also think with my head. I don't let my emotions run away with me as well. So I don't know what to call myself - I'm confused!”
